JobsEmbedded CPU Engineer, Platform Architecture
Job description
The Embedded CPU Engineer will join the Platform Architecture team to optimize performance and efficiency for Apple's embedded CPUs. This role focuses on understanding the unique constraints of embedded applications across various Apple products. The engineer will analyze performance, identify bottlenecks, and propose optimization strategies. Collaboration with algorithm teams, software engineers, and CPU designers is essential for exploring architectural enhancements tailored to embedded use cases.
Requirements
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or similar field
- 10+ years of industry experience in CPU architecture or performance analysis
- Experience with performance simulation environments and optimization of workloads
- Experience with one or more ISAs: ARM, RISC-V, x86
- Expertise in CPU microarchitecture in areas such as branch prediction and memory hierarchy
- Experience in C, C++, or similar programming languages
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Perl for analysis and automation
- MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
- Understanding of power-performance trade-offs in CPU designs and low-power design techniques
- Experience with real-time operating systems and embedded software constraints
Responsibilities
- Drive performance and efficiency optimization for embedded CPUs
- Conduct deep-dive performance analysis of embedded workloads
- Identify bottlenecks in existing microarchitectures
- Propose optimization strategies that balance performance, power efficiency, and area
- Collaborate with algorithm teams, software engineers, and CPU designers
- Explore ISA extensions and microarchitecture enhancements
- Develop analysis tools and infrastructure for data-driven architectural decisions
- Create and analyze workloads and benchmarks representative of embedded applications
- Iterate with design teams to ensure implementability within constraints
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
