Job description
We are seeking a dedicated Si photonics & optical Packaging Engineer to join our team, focusing on the development of high-efficiency optical I/O module architecture and packaging solutions. This role involves working with cross-functional teams to lead the Si photonics packaging technology development and drive optical engine module and coupling design efforts. The engineer will be responsible for optimizing performance, reliability, yield, and cost in packaging solutions. The position requires hands-on experience in optical component design and fiber-coupled device measurement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 20 years of relevant industry experience.
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics (Optics major), Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent field is desired.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills are essential.
- Strong theoretical background in optics and photonics fundamentals is required.
- Hands-on experience in packaging and measuring fiber-coupled devices is necessary.
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience in the related field with an M.S. or Ph.D. is required.
- Experience with CMOS BEOL wafer scale processing and flip chip assembly is preferred.
- Familiarity with silicon photonics device components such as lasers, modulators, and passive components is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Si photonics packaging technology development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive optical engine module and optical coupling design efforts.
- Define assembly baseline processes and decide package BOM.
- Establish optical coupling design and manufacturing optimized for performance, reliability, yield, and cost.
- Work with optical component vendors, foundries, and OSAT to bring Si photonics packaging solutions from concept to high volume manufacturing.
- Conduct hands-on assembly and interface characterization of micro-optical components.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage.
