Job description
The Health Sensing Hardware team is focused on developing next-generation optical sensors for wearable health insights. They are seeking a motivated biomedical optics engineer to create solutions for measuring complex physiological signals in compact devices like the Apple Watch and AirPods. The role involves leveraging expertise in physics, physiology, and optics to enhance optical health sensors. The engineer will collaborate with research scientists and hardware engineers to investigate novel sensing solutions and analyze user data.
Requirements
- PhD in Biomedical, Optical Engineering or related field
- BS and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience
- In-depth understanding of light propagation in biological tissue
- Experience with hands-on development of optical systems for biomedical optics applications
- Strong optical simulation skills using commercial ray-tracing packages
- Experience with both coherent and non-coherent light-tissue interaction principles and their applications
- Fundamental understanding of device physics governing typical light emitters and detectors
- Conversant in cross-functional aspects of system design, including mechanical tolerance and sources of electrical noise
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent documentation skills
Responsibilities
- Develop research platforms to investigate novel sensing solutions
- Leverage modeling tools to analyze empirical observations
- Define sensing requirements for multidisciplinary sensor architects
- Design user studies and analyze data to validate sensing solutions
- Summarize findings and communicate them to the larger team and senior leadership
