Job description
The role is part of the Apple AIML Evaluation team, which focuses on enabling rapid innovation of machine learning-driven product features. The team operates a large-scale distributed Annotation platform that generates high-quality data for Apple intelligence products. As a member of this team, you will work alongside skilled engineers to build reliable backend systems while ensuring user privacy. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful projects that enhance customer experiences.
Requirements
- MS in Computer Science, Distributed Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field is required.
- Strong computer science fundamentals in system design, object-oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms are essential.
- A minimum of 6 years of professional software engineering experience is preferred.
- Experience with server-side programming languages, particularly Java and Go, is required, with Python being a plus.
- Strong knowledge of database systems and data modeling, with hands-on experience in SQL, NoSQL, and OLAP data stores is necessary.
- Experience with cloud-based infrastructure, preferably AWS, and hybrid ecosystems is required.
- Experience with agentic coding tools such as Claude Code is a plus.
- Experience shipping scalable microservices, distributed systems, and web services at massive scale is essential.
- Familiarity with test-driven development, continuous integration, and delivery is required.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills are necessary.
Responsibilities
- Build reliable backend systems for the AIML Annotation Platform.
- Design and implement scalable microservices and distributed systems.
- Collaborate with a team of engineers to enhance data annotation frameworks.
- Discuss technical tradeoffs across system architecture, database design, and API design.
- Mentor other engineers and help elevate the skills of the team.
- Continuously improve personal and team performance through a learning attitude.
