Job description

The role involves designing and implementing fiber optic and passive infrastructure for AWS global infrastructure. You will work within a diverse team of engineers and specialists to ensure high standards of safety, security, and performance. The focus is on developing scalable solutions that enhance deployment speed and reduce costs while maintaining operational excellence. You will also engage with cross-functional teams and external vendors to drive large-scale projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Communications Engineering or a related field
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience on fiber plant design and network design or 12+ years of experience in structured cabling design, deployment, and maintenance for large-scale data centers
  • 8+ years of experience with fiber plant design and IEEE standards
  • 4+ years of experience working with optical protocols and technologies
  • Expertise in industry standards such as ANSI/TIA, BICSI and other relevant structured cabling guidelines
  • Proven ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams and external vendors on large-scale projects

Responsibilities

  • Develop and establish strategy of new fiber optic and passive infrastructure designs.
  • Design scalable test infrastructure and qualification procedures to automate fiber optic validation and qualification.
  • Design structured cabling systems for network layers at hyperscale data centers.
  • Solve ambiguous problems in network architecture and system development initiatives.
  • Drive discussions with customers and peers to influence team strategy.
  • Manage fiber vendors and contractors by establishing data-driven processes for quality control.
  • Monitor fiber optic quality and build data-driven mechanisms to improve overall health of the fiber plant.
  • Perform deep dives through on-site visits and data analysis to drive continuous improvement.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
