The Field Engineer role at Amazon Dedicated Cloud involves providing engineering support to data center operations for the US intelligence community. The position requires strong engineering judgment and the ability to manage projects while building relationships with various stakeholders. The team focuses on maintaining and improving AWS data centers, ensuring they meet customer needs and operational efficiency. Candidates will engage in both office and field work, contributing to innovative projects at a hyper-scale.
Requirements
- Must possess a valid US driver's license and reliable personal transportation by start date.
- Must be a US Citizen and obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience in problem solving and root cause analysis.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience using a variety of web-based and other software tools for calculation and data processing.
Responsibilities
- Provide full life-cycle support to AWS Data Centers from design inception through site improvement and maintenance.
- Perform design and equipment submittal review for new Data Centers in your region.
- Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
- Support operational issues with ad-hoc training and complex operating procedure reviews.
- Own the design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions to improve capacity and efficiency.
- Interface with internal teams to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
- Initiate and lead engineering site audits within Amazon’s owned or colo data centers.
- Act as resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and turnover.
