Job description

As a Software Development Engineer on the AWS Credentials Distribution Systems (CreDS) team, you will build and operate a critical credential distribution platform for Amazon's internal infrastructure. This role focuses on ensuring the security, scalability, and resilience of the system that every service team relies on. You will work closely with internal customers to simplify credential management and drive automation to enhance operational excellence. The team emphasizes strong ownership and operational practices to maintain high standards in system reliability and security.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems
  • 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
  • 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications
  • 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate a tier-0 credential distribution system that serves every service team across Amazon's internal infrastructure.
  • Own and continuously improve system reliability, scalability, and security by proactively identifying risks.
  • Work backwards from internal customers to simplify credential management and build seamless adoption features.
  • Drive operational excellence through automation, monitoring improvements, and runbook development.
  • Collaborate with partner teams across Amazon to drive credential migration and adoption goals.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex distributed systems issues across multiple layers of the stack.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and contribute to incident response and root cause analysis.
  • Contribute to system design and architecture decisions for long-term scalability and maintainability.
  • Leverage AI tooling to improve engineering productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Raise the bar for engineering quality through thorough code reviews and testing practices.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
