Job description

This position is part of the Product Design FEA team, focusing on predictive engineering to enhance product designs for various Apple devices. The role involves applying knowledge of mechanics, materials, and numerical methods to influence the development of innovative products. You will work closely with the product design team and engage with suppliers to explore new technologies. The goal is to validate simulation workflows and improve engineering processes.

Requirements

  • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Material Science, or a similar discipline required.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in solid mechanics and finite element analysis.
  • Expertise in constitutive modeling and large deformation theory.
  • Experience in polymer testing and modeling.
  • Familiarity with simulation software such as Abaqus, ANSYS, and META.
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Material Science, or a similar discipline is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design experiments to characterize materials and advance simulation workflows.
  • Validate simulation methods at various scales for the FEA community.
  • Interpret system-level FEA results and compare them with instrumented tests.
  • Act as a communication channel with suppliers and vendors for new technologies.
  • Collaborate with the product design team from the earliest stages of product development.
  • Identify areas for improvement and drive innovation in engineering processes.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
