Job description

This position focuses on conducting experiments to evaluate the structural performance of components and systems. The role involves collaboration with various teams, including Design and Product Validation, to ensure that designs meet customer requirements. The engineer will apply principles of statistical methods, noise and acoustics, and dynamics and vibration to analyze technical data and make informed decisions. Additionally, the role includes managing the life cycle of individual parts and improving testing methods to enhance structural performance.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Automotive, Systems or Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 3 years of experience as an Applied Mechanics, Mechanical or Systems Engineer, or related position.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree in Automotive, Systems or Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 5 years of experience in a relevant position.
  • Experience with principles of statistical methods, fatigue and durability, noise and acoustics, and dynamics and vibration.
  • Proficiency in hydraulic and electrodynamic shaker systems and servo-hydraulic load frames.
  • Familiarity with computer modeling processes including Matlab, LabVIEW, nCode, Siemens Test.Lab, and Windows/Linux operating systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct experiments to determine the structural performance of components and systems.
  • Evaluate experimental equipment and methods and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Utilize experimental results to assess design validity against customer requirements.
  • Negotiate with cross-functional teams to deliver key structural performance parameters.
  • Apply statistical methods to analyze technical data and make data-based decisions.
  • Evaluate noise and vibration characteristics using principles of dynamics and acoustics.
  • Determine the life of components through fatigue and durability analysis.
  • Manage the life cycle of individual parts from design to retirement.
  • Research, design, and maintain mechanical products and systems to meet specified requirements.

Benefits

  • Employees at Cummins are often offered comprehensive benefits that support financial wellness (retirement savings/401(k) or pension options and profit-sharing), health and wellness (medical, dental, life insurance, FSAs), and professional growth through training and tuition reimbursement—sometimes including full education funding. Work-life perks commonly include paid vacation and holidays, parental leave and adoption assistance, flexible work arrangements, inclusion-focused programs, and paid volunteer time to give back to the community.
