As a Principal ML Engineer at Uber, you will lead the development of advanced autonomy algorithms and models to enhance the understanding of complex driving data. You will be part of a high-velocity team focused on unlocking real-world driving data for autonomous vehicles. Your role involves setting the technical direction for machine learning initiatives that improve data mining and scene understanding. Collaboration with engineers across various domains will be essential to build platforms that address real-world complexities in autonomous driving.
Requirements
- 10+ years of working experience in the ML, Robotics, or Autonomous Systems industry
- Proven experience leading large-scale technical projects from conception to production
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields
- Expert-level proficiency in Python and Linux environments
- Deep expertise in modern AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow
Responsibilities
- Lead the strategy for developing autonomy algorithms and foundation models to extract high-fidelity semantic meaning from complex urban edge cases
- Provide the overarching technical vision for multi-modal scene understanding and modeling the causality behind ego vehicle behaviors from logged data
- Mentor senior and lead engineers, fostering a culture of rigorous experimentation and engineering excellence
- Act as a bridge between AV Labs and other Uber engineering units to ensure successful integration and deployment of semantic models and data evaluation platforms
