The Motion Sensing Hardware team at Apple is seeking a Module Test Instrumentation & Automation Engineer to develop test methodologies for IMU, pressure, and compass sensor systems. This role involves characterizing and validating advanced sensing technologies while supporting data collection and automation infrastructure. The engineer will transform raw measurement data into actionable insights, ensuring quality and performance throughout the product development lifecycle. This position requires a blend of hands-on sensor experience and strong software engineering skills.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic, or Aerospace Engineering
- A minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience characterizing or testing inertial, pressure, or magnetic sensors in a product development environment
- Deep understanding of IMU fundamentals including accelerometer and gyroscope error models
- Proficiency in Python or equivalent languages for writing production-quality test automation
- Strong signal processing fundamentals including FFT and noise floor analysis
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
Responsibilities
- Design and execute test methodologies for IMU, pressure, and compass sensor systems
- Develop and maintain test plans for new sensor variants
- Write software needed to collect, structure, and analyze test data
- Diagnose sensor anomalies at the signal level
- Document test methodologies clearly and present characterization results to teams
- Integrate software tools into the team's shared automation infrastructure
- Support the development of simulation environments or digital twins of sensor systems
