Job description

The iCloud Anti-Abuse team at Apple is seeking an ML engineer to enhance user protection against spam, phishing, and malicious content. This role involves building and deploying machine learning models within distributed systems at iCloud scale. The engineer will work closely with backend engineers and cross-functional teams to improve trust and safety measures. The position requires a strong foundation in machine learning and distributed systems engineering, focusing on abuse detection and real-time inference.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on machine learning engineering experience, including training and deploying models in production
  • Strong programming skills in one or more production languages such as Java, Scala, Kotlin, Go, or Python
  • Experience building and operating ML pipelines, including data processing, feature engineering, training, serving, and monitoring
  • Solid foundation in distributed systems with an understanding of scalability, fault tolerance, and latency tradeoffs
  • Familiarity with classification, ranking, or anomaly detection techniques
  • Ability to drive projects independently from problem definition to production
  • BS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

Responsibilities

  • Design, train, and deploy machine learning models that operate at iCloud scale
  • Build features from high-volume data streams for ML-driven abuse detection
  • Train and evaluate classification and ranking models for user protection
  • Deploy models into low-latency serving infrastructure and close the feedback loop
  • Write production-quality code and iterate quickly on model performance
  • Collaborate with backend engineers and cross-functional teams in trust and safety, operations, and product

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
