Job description

As a Construction Engineer at Jacobs, you will be part of a collaborative team focused on providing engineering, construction management, and design-build project delivery for various infrastructure projects. This role is based in Chicago and involves working on highway, roadway, bridge, sewer, water, and transit construction projects in northeastern Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin. You will play a key role in ensuring that construction work is completed according to contract specifications while maintaining organized documentation. Your effective communication skills will be essential in interacting with clients, contractors, and team members.

Requirements

  • 4 to 8 years of experience in water/sewer, roadway, bridge, and/or transit construction engineering and inspection services
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Ability to commute to project locations in northeastern Illinois or southeastern Wisconsin
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications, including Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Working knowledge/experience utilizing project management software such as eBuilder, InEight, or CMMS

Responsibilities

  • Report to and support the Resident Engineer or Project Manager
  • Work independently to manage and complete assigned tasks
  • Review and understand construction plans, specifications, submittals, and contract documents
  • Perform daily inspections to verify that the contractor's work is completed in accordance with the contract documents
  • Prepare daily construction reports that identify the contractor workforce, equipment, activities, site visitors, and include daily progress photos
  • Prepare regular status reports and maintain current and accurate record drawings
  • Keep the Resident Engineer/Project Manager informed of the contractor's progress and activities
  • Review contractor QC documentation and checklists
  • Document meeting minutes and review inspector daily reports and material documentation
  • Maintain the project quantity book and report any field conditions that deviate from the contract
