Job description

The Neural Engine Performance Engineer will join the Platform Architecture team at Apple, focusing on enhancing the performance of the Neural Engine IP through software optimizations and hardware architectural improvements. This role involves collaboration with engineers across various teams to ensure seamless integration of hardware and software technologies. The engineer will analyze, debug, and optimize performance issues related to the Neural Engine. A strong background in performance profiling and low-level software development is essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with C++ and Python.
  • Experience with performance profiling of hardware or software.
  • Experience in at least one hardware IP such as ML hardware accelerators, GPUs, ISPs, Video CODECs, or CPUs.
  • Master's or PhD degree is preferred.
  • 3+ years of software experience.
  • Experience writing low-level software interfaces to hardware.
  • Experience debugging complex system-level performance issues.
  • Experience writing automation software for data collection and analysis.
  • Understanding of OS scheduling and memory management.
  • Understanding of ML workloads and deployment for inference.
  • Understanding of SoC cache hierarchy and its performance implications.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and debug performance issues of the Neural Engine.
  • Optimize the performance of the Neural Engine through software and hardware enhancements.
  • Collaborate with engineers across Apple to design integrated hardware and software solutions.
  • Write low-level software interfaces to improve hardware performance.
