The role is for an experienced engineer to join the Platform Software Development team at eero, focusing on the development and maintenance of eeroOS, the embedded Linux-based operating system for eero devices. The team operates at the intersection of embedded systems and modern software engineering, ensuring reliable and performant services for millions of homes. Responsibilities include collaborating with hardware engineering, maintaining build infrastructure, and analyzing telemetry data. The position also involves mentoring junior engineers and contributing to architectural decisions.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional software development experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience
- 2+ years of experience with embedded Linux or Linux-based platform development
- Proficiency in C/C++ and one scripting/systems language (Python or Golang)
- Experience with Golang for platform/systems service development
- Experience with Linux internals: systemd, networking stack, filesystems, process management
- Experience with building systems for embedded targets (Yocto, OpenWrt, Buildroot, or equivalent)
- Experience with networking protocols (802.11, Ethernet switching, TCP/IP, mesh networking)
- Experience with Rust in systems programming contexts
- Familiarity with hardware debugging tools and reading device trees
- Experience with secure boot, firmware signing, or OTA update security
- Experience with fleet-scale device management and telemetry systems
- Familiarity with CI/CD for embedded targets
- Experience working in resource-constrained environments
- Track record of debugging complex cross-layer issues
Responsibilities
- Partner with hardware engineering during board bring-up to debug boot sequences and device configurations
- Support manufacturing and operations teams to ensure production firmware quality
- Develop and maintain low-level drivers for secure and reliable deployments
- Design, develop, and maintain system-level services on eeroOS using Golang, Python, and C/C++
- Implement and debug networking features within the platform layer
- Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling
- Analyze telemetry and diagnostics data to identify performance issues
- Lead technical design reviews and mentor junior engineers
- Contribute to architectural decisions impacting the eero device portfolio
