Job description

Apple is seeking a highly motivated process development engineer to join the Display Technologies Organization, focusing on optical module process development. The role involves working in a fast-paced team to tackle complex product design challenges. The engineer will design new process architectures, customize equipment, and drive optimization efforts. Strong collaboration with cross-functional teams and vendors is essential to ensure successful project outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in optics, opto-mechanics, mechatronics, robotics, or mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of direct experience in process and equipment development for optical products.
  • Experience in process fundamentals including bonding, electrical interconnect, assembly, and alignment.
  • Experience in designing, building, and operating active alignment equipment with high precision.
  • Experience with equipment automation, cycle time optimization, and in-process quality control.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as NX or Solidworks, and data analysis tools like Matlab or JMP.
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field of study is preferred.
  • Broad knowledge in optics and experience in equipment design.

Responsibilities

  • Lead new equipment and process development for optical modules.
  • Convert incubation technologies into scalable solutions and validate them through optimizations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members and external vendors to define and qualify equipment.
  • Plan and execute empirical trials, theoretical analysis, and data visualization.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and executives.
  • Monitor industry trends in equipment and process manufacturing technology.
  • Travel internationally to work with vendors in factories as needed.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
