Job description

The Autonomy Software Systems team at Rivian is focused on developing foundational software components for the autonomy compute platform. This role involves owning the architecture and specifications of platform services that manage application lifecycle, system state, and fault management. The ideal candidate will work cross-functionally with systems engineering and software infrastructure teams to ensure effective implementation of platform services. A strong background in embedded systems and automotive software is essential for success in this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in embedded systems, automotive software platforms, or autonomous vehicle compute systems.
  • Deep understanding of platform software concepts such as process/application lifecycle management and fault detection.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems like QNX or Linux with RT extensions in automotive contexts.
  • Strong familiarity with service-oriented communication and automotive networking.
  • Proficiency in C++ and Python for software development and automation.
  • Experience with Adaptive AUTOSAR concepts and automotive functional safety processes.
  • Experience with requirements management tools like DOORS or Polarion.

Responsibilities

  • Own the architectural definition of platform services for the autonomy compute platform.
  • Author and maintain platform service specifications for the software infrastructure implementation team.
  • Define interface contracts between platform services and applications.
  • Make and document architectural trade-off decisions considering performance and safety.
  • Establish and maintain traceability between requirements and architecture decisions.
  • Collaborate with the team to improve requirements management practices.
  • Define acceptance criteria and verification strategies for platform services.
  • Participate in design reviews for platform software implementations.
