Job description

The Director of Engineering for AI Accelerator Cluster Systems at Google will lead the provisioning architecture and operations for the company's bare metal accelerator infrastructure. This role requires a blend of physical systems engineering and software stack management, focusing on delivering AI infrastructure on-premises. The position involves strategic collaboration across teams to optimize the AI accelerator stack and ensure high performance for machine learning workloads. The director will also oversee the core software stack and contribute to the long-term infrastructure strategy.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 15 years of professional engineering experience.
  • 5 years of experience in a senior leadership role managing large-scale infrastructure or systems teams.
  • Experience in engineering leadership managing both physical systems design and the software stack for networking or computing products.

Responsibilities

  • Build physical infrastructure and custom networking while designing data centers focused on custom cooling and rack density.
  • Oversee the core bare-metal software stack, including drivers, operating systems, firmware, and accelerator release management.
  • Engineer systems with direct GPU/TPU access to ensure high compute density and low latency for training foundation models.
  • Partner cross-functionally to optimize the end-to-end AI accelerator stack from large-scale networking to Kubernetes.
  • Collaborate with product and go-to-market leaders to shape the multi-year bare-metal AI infrastructure strategy.
