Job description

The Senior Software Engineer in the Storage, Search, and Data group at Uber will play a crucial role in transitioning to a Cloud-Native Data Platform. This position involves taking ownership of business-critical systems, optimizing data lakes, and building resilient distributed systems. The engineer will work on high-performance code and ensure operational excellence for services that handle millions of concurrent trips. The role requires collaboration with AI teams to design data pipelines that meet the demands of GPU-based model training.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of engineering experience in building and maintaining large-scale distributed systems.
  • Practical experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as Distributed MySQL, Cassandra, or Redis.
  • Hands-on experience with batch and object storage systems like HDFS and S3/GCS.
  • Expert-level proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Go, or C++.
  • Experience with large-scale analytical engines like Presto, Hive, or Trino.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of major features for Uber's storage and data platforms.
  • Build and optimize services that leverage GCP and OCI Object Storage.
  • Drive efficiency across HDFS and Blobstore layers using table formats like Apache Hudi or Iceberg.
  • Work with AI teams to design high-performance data pipelines for GPU-based model training.
  • Ensure 99.99% availability for services and lead root-cause analyses.
