Job description

Arcadis is seeking a highly skilled Tunnel Engineering SME/Senior Tunnel Engineer to support the Gateway Hudson Tunnel Project, a critical infrastructure initiative in the United States. This role involves working with a multidisciplinary team to deliver excellence on one of the most technically complex projects in the world. The engineer will lead tunnel construction activities and ensure adherence to design specifications and safety protocols. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant infrastructure program that will reshape rail transportation and improve regional accessibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in tunnel engineering, including design, construction, and oversight of TBM projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise tunnel construction activities, ensuring strict adherence to design specifications and safety protocols.
  • Monitor Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) operations and ensure proper functioning and efficiency.
  • Interpret and analyze geotechnical and geological data to inform tunneling approaches and risk mitigation measures.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs meet applicable engineering codes and project requirements.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and field staff, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in client meetings, technical presentations, and progress reporting as required.
