Job description

The Motion Sensing Hardware team at Apple is seeking a Module Test Instrumentation & Automation Engineer to design and develop electronic hardware and software for sensor characterization. This role involves creating custom test instrumentation that integrates with automation infrastructure to enhance sensor performance analysis. The ideal candidate will possess strong electrical engineering fundamentals and software development skills. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge sensing technologies in consumer products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard schematic capture tools such as Altium Designer or Cadence.
  • Strong analog design fundamentals including signal conditioning and power supply design for precision measurement.
  • Familiarity with common sensor communication interfaces like I2C, SPI, and UART.
  • Proficiency in Python for test automation and data collection scripting.
  • Hands-on experience designing schematics and reviewing PCB layouts for analog or mixed-signal applications.
  • Firmware development experience in C/C++ for embedded microcontrollers.
  • Experience with FPGA development using Verilog or VHDL.
  • Familiarity with MEMS sensor operation and signal chain requirements.
  • Experience designing for low-noise, high-resolution measurement applications.
  • Familiarity with data automation frameworks and embedded test systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design electronic hardware and supporting software for sensor characterization.
  • Oversee schematic design and PCB layout for precision measurement applications.
  • Develop software interfaces that connect custom test hardware to automation tools.
  • Collaborate with firmware and embedded software engineers for dedicated firmware requirements.
  • Ensure hardware choices meet accuracy and throughput demands for sensor characterization.
  • Document hardware designs clearly and collaborate across hardware, firmware, and software disciplines.
  • Develop hardware abstraction layers or SDK-style interfaces for firmware reuse.
  • Participate in consumer electronics product development cycles including hardware bring-up phases.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
