The Systems Development Engineer will join Amazon's Technology Deployment - Systems Integration team, focusing on developing and delivering advanced fulfillment systems. This role requires candidates to have engineering experience in the automation project life cycle, including design, development, and support. The engineer will act as a liaison between Fulfillment Center Operations and product development engineers, ensuring successful equipment delivery for testing. The position emphasizes building relationships across teams and improving deployment processes through validation and testing.
Requirements
- Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure.
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, or Rust.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes.
- Experience with Linux/Unix.
- 3+ years control system experience including PLC/IPC based controls design, development, implementation, and support.
- Experience with the designs of complex, automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, or systems including robotics.
- Experience working with technical documentation such as flow diagrams and equipment layouts.
- Demonstrated understanding of life-cycle embedded systems development including hardware and software.
- Experience in testing and implementing software.
- Experience in industrial networking and communications including topology design.
- Experience with 3-phase electrical systems.
- Demonstrated ability to combine controls and software systems engineering skills.
- Direct management or responsibility for material handling, automation, or technical projects.
- Demonstrated design and/or implementation experience with integrated automation solutions.
- Experience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology.
- Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices.
- Experience developing web-based applications using AWS services.
Responsibilities
- Support the installation of complex cross-functional projects with considerable impact.
- Work with internal and external engineering teams to successfully deliver high-quality projects.
- Contribute to project priorities, establishing milestones, and driving schedules to meet deadlines.
- Deep dive into technical solutions that encompass advanced technology applications.
- Participate in design reviews and support execution efforts between internal teams and outside vendors.
- Communicate project status and produce clear summaries for the program management team.
- Capture and synthesize the Voice of Customer for new product introductions.
- Build strong working relationships with Fulfillment Center management and operations teams.
- Identify process improvement initiatives in support of operations and engineering teams.
- Develop cross-functional knowledge of Operations and Engineering team systems and processes.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to generate high-quality solutions.
- Travel up to 75% throughout North America based on peak seasons.
