Job description

The Principal Engineer for YouTube Shorts, Creator Growth will lead the technical strategy to enhance content creation and foster a sustainable ecosystem for creators. This role is pivotal in inspiring a diverse range of creators and ensuring a healthy supply of high-value content. The team focuses on solving large-scale machine learning challenges to improve discovery and engagement. The position requires collaboration with various teams to integrate the creator growth vision across the YouTube platform.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience in engineering.
  • Experience with cross-functional technical innovation.
  • 7 years of experience in a technical leadership role responsible for multiple technical areas and setting technical direction.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex assignments simultaneously and work with geographically dispersed, cross-functional teams.
  • Deep expertise in large-scale recommendation systems, Generative AI for content understanding, and machine learning infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Grow the creator ecosystem by inspiring viewers to create.
  • Model the Consumption to Creation journeys to understand what inspires Shorts viewers to create.
  • Build attribution systems that track inspiration sources over multiple touch points.
  • Develop cold-start solutions to match creators with their audiences.
  • Lead the shift from views-only rewards to deeper engagement and creator recognition value models.
  • Leverage LLMs, multi-modality modeling, and large embedding models to build specialized recommender systems.
  • Partner with various teams to ensure the creator growth vision is integrated across the YouTube stack.
