Job description

The Senior Staff Software Engineer for YouTube Ads Surfaces & Experiences will drive the long-term engineering strategy focused on format optimizations and new experiences. This role requires expertise in machine learning and software development, as well as the ability to influence stakeholders and solve complex problems. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent feature development and address technical challenges. This position is critical for enhancing the technical health and scalability of YouTube Ads.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 7 years of experience leading technical project strategy, ML design, and optimizing industry-scale ML infrastructure.
  • 5 years of experience with design and architecture along with testing and launching software products.
  • 2 years of experience with state of the art GenAI techniques or related concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the long-term engineering strategy, incorporating organizational business priorities and technological shifts.
  • Own key technical decisions based on expertise, guiding the team through important design tradeoffs.
  • Identify system hotspots to improve the organization's technical health.
  • Invest in growing the next generation of technical leaders through direct coaching and mentorship.
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure features are built consistently across different surfaces.
