Job description

The Mechatronics Systems Engineer will join the Advanced Engineering team in Troy, MI, focusing on innovation in mechatronic and sensing technologies for drivetrain, braking, and steering systems. This role involves transforming product and market needs into technical requirements and guiding the development of new solutions. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to ensure system-level alignment and robust integration. Success in this position requires strong systems thinking and the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, or Systems Engineering is preferred, with a Master's degree being advantageous.
  • 7+ years of experience in mechatronics, sensing systems, or system-level engineering roles.
  • Strong background in sensing technologies, hardware integration, and vehicle-level system behavior.
  • Experience with drivetrain, braking systems, and/or electric power steering (EPS).
  • Proficiency in structured requirements management tools such as Polarion, DOORS, or Jama.
  • Ability to analyze large datasets and extract insights to guide concept development.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and data-driven troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with CAN-based communication and diagnostic tools.
  • Experience supporting ISO 26262 functional safety activities.
  • Background in commercial vehicle systems, including heavy/medium duty trucks.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate in the ideation and conceptualization of new sensing and mechatronic solutions.
  • Translate product and market requirements into clear, actionable technical requirements.
  • Partner with Software Controls & Electronics teams to ensure system-level alignment.
  • Define prototype needs and lead early-stage build and test activities.
  • Work with suppliers to evaluate sensing technologies and integration requirements.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment on new technology initiatives.
  • Mentor junior engineers in systems thinking and requirements development.
