As a Data Center Sr. Civil Engineer at AWS, you will lead civil engineering designs for Amazon Data Centers, working within a diverse team of architects and engineers. Your role will involve providing technical design guidance and oversight while solving large-scale implementation issues. You will be responsible for managing external civil design consultants and coordinating with various engineering disciplines. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to innovative data center designs that prioritize efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
- 10+ years of progressive site civil engineering experience focused on large-scale industrial, commercial, and mission-critical developments
- Licensed Professional Civil Engineer (PE) registration is required
- Demonstrated expertise in the design and construction of large-scale industrial utility and distribution systems
- Strong knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles and environmental compliance
- Significant experience managing site entitlement processes and permitting
Responsibilities
- Manage external civil design consultants through the Data Center design and construction process
- Review designs for site layout, mass grading, grading and drainage, and utilities
- Lead permitting, development, and civil design coordination of multiple data center campuses
- Assist, coach, and mentor lower level engineers
- Coordinate with internal and external architects and engineers as a technical resource
- Develop cost and time efficient data center site layouts while maintaining design flexibility
- Effectively communicate design standards to project partners
- Create, review, and release design RFPs for various projects
- Manage project-specific cost and schedule variables
- Develop initiatives aimed at improving cost, quality, schedule, and consistency
- Travel for site assessments and construction reviews
