Job description

The Principal Technical Program Manager at Microsoft Research will play a crucial role in translating early-stage research into shippable cloud AI capabilities. This position involves close collaboration with researchers and Azure engineering teams to shape technical concepts into product roadmaps. The role requires managing relationships with external suppliers and ensuring that critical dependencies are met on time. The successful candidate will own the program structure from prototype through general availability, contributing to the future of AI infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field and 6+ years of experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development.
  • 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Master’s or PhD Degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of optics and/or photonics.
  • Knowledge of networking and interconnects.
  • Familiarity with hardware/system simulation or modeling tools.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Translate early-stage research into shippable cloud AI capabilities.
  • Partner with researchers and engineering teams to design technical solutions.
  • Define success criteria for moving research prototypes to general availability.
  • Own the program structure end-to-end including roadmap and governance.
  • Validate use cases against live workloads and bring feedback back to teams.
