Job description

The Apple Services Engineering Commerce group is seeking a Senior Backend Java Engineer to join the Payments Experience team. This team is responsible for building the transactional engine that supports various Apple services, including the App Store and Apple Music. The role focuses on developing secure, high-scale systems that enhance user account experiences while ensuring a seamless purchase process. The ideal candidate will thrive in ambiguous situations and make sound technical decisions under pressure.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience implementing and maintaining critical systems at scale.
  • Outstanding analytical problem-solving, debugging, and diagnostic skills.
  • Willingness to take ownership and set direction in projects.
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science or related experience.
  • Experience with security protocols, authentication and authorization mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with load balancing, autoscaling, and distributed systems debugging.
  • Proficiency with observability tooling, including metrics and performance troubleshooting.
  • Strong commitment to automated testing, including integration and end-to-end testing.

Responsibilities

  • Build and evolve secure, high-scale systems for critical user flows.
  • Design and launch new account features to enhance user experience.
  • Strengthen security posture through industry-leading best practices.
  • Modernize legacy systems by adopting the newest technologies.
  • Rapidly resolve customer-impacting issues.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
