Job description

The Sr. Quality Engineer, Complete Vehicle Quality at Rivian will play a crucial role in ensuring high-quality vehicles by collaborating with various teams across Customer Quality, Service Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations. This position requires a strong background in quality assurance within manufacturing or engineering environments. The engineer will actively identify and address quality issues while developing inspection plans and work instructions. The role demands a hands-on approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining high standards in vehicle production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent
  • 4+ years of quality experience in manufacturing or engineering environments
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain testing methods for detection, diagnostics and investigation for quality issues
  • Demonstrated project management skills and high-level summary for plant quality awareness
  • Production Operations Knowledge and complete vehicle experience
  • Hands-on experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and testing methodologies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in 8D or similar methods
  • SIX SIGMA Green Belt is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience with GD&T
  • Proficient in MS Office, CAD, and Atlassian tools like Jira and Confluence
  • Must be able to travel at least 20%, with potential for increased travel
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly ambiguous, multi-cultural environment with cross-functional teams

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with various cross-functional teams to ensure the Manufacturing facility implements and maintains all requisite controls for the detection, containment, and prevention of quality issues.
  • Actively identify and address high-risk issues originating from various sources, including Service Quality data, Internal control gates, and Operations reports.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to determine the root cause of intricate technical challenges.
  • Work with the Engineering team to define process parameters and criteria to ensure process capability is effective to meet product requirements.
  • Develop inspection plans and work instructions for Quality Gates based on established specifications, industry standards, and the voice of the customer.
  • Monitor and steer systematic problems through the operations system.
  • Provide validation for deviations and containment actions implemented within the factory to address critical quality issues.
