Job description

The AWS NAT Gateway team is seeking a Software Development Engineer to enhance security and visibility capabilities for their external facing NAT Gateway service. This role involves collaborating with a diverse team of engineers to deliver high-performance distributed systems that process customer traffic at scale. The ideal candidate will be customer-centric and comfortable with ambiguity, focusing on operational excellence and mentoring junior engineers. This position offers the opportunity to work on critical networking architecture that impacts AWS customers' security posture.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience
  • Strong programming skills in Java, C++, or Rust
  • Experience building distributed systems or network services
  • Understanding of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, TLS, and HTTP
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement high-performance NAT Gateway services that process customer traffic at scale
  • Build distributed systems that deliver sub-millisecond latency while maintaining security
  • Optimize packet processing pipelines to handle increasing traffic volumes
  • Collaborate with security teams to implement new threat detection capabilities
  • Participate in on-call rotation to ensure service availability
