Job description

The Sr. Dimensional Engineer at Rivian is responsible for ensuring that vehicle components and assemblies meet dimensional quality targets throughout the product lifecycle. This role involves leading dimensional control strategies to achieve fit, finish, and functional requirements across various assemblies. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to address dimensional issues and drive process standardization. A strong focus on quality and collaboration is essential for success in this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Hands-on experience with fixture designs, checking aids, and datum strategies.
  • Excellent knowledge of GD&T.
  • Manufacturing or assembly experience in areas such as Automotive Stamping, Body in White assemblies, Drivetrain castings, or Battery modules.
  • Results driven with a Quality Mindset.
  • Willingness to work in a strong cross-functional and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Improve dimensional performance of vehicles throughout the product life cycle.
  • Develop and manage the list of critical product and process characteristics and control their geometry in vehicle builds.
  • Develop and maintain the Dimensional Control plan for critical assemblies.
  • Support parts and system validation processes for all body geometry.
  • Lead variation reduction efforts for the body shop to achieve Cp/Cpk greater than 1.33 for all critical features.
  • Review supplier parts to ensure zero-dimensional build issues.
  • Own and maintain the current Geo fixtures, Cubes, Ring gauges, and PCF.
  • Support interior and exterior dimensional validation using Cubes, Ring gauges, and PCFs.
  • Recommend best gauging methods and perform data analysis to identify problems.
  • Lead cross-functional teams through root cause analysis of dimensional issues.
