Job description
Tesla is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to aid in the development and launch of battery manufacturing equipment for the new Roadster vehicle. This role involves overseeing large-scale manufacturing systems from concept through production, requiring travel to support equipment and operations.
Requirements
- 3+ years of engineering or equivalent relevant experience
- Experience deploying, qualifying and validating new processes in a highly automated production environment
- Proficiency in geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) and experimental design
- Design of mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling in CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret production data and solve technical challenges using first principles
- Proficiency in the development and launch of manufacturing lines
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience
Responsibilities
- Ideate concepts for equipment and manufacturing system(s)
- Develop specifications and manage RFQ process
- Validate and optimize processes from early prototype builds through full volume production
- Transition products from low-volume prototypes to large-scale production
- Identify root causes of production bottlenecks, equipment malfunctions, and variability, using first principles thinking to drive sustainable solutions
- Use manufacturing data to inform decisions, track progress, and identify areas for improvement in real-time
- Create detailed documentation for equipment handover to operations team
