Job description

As a member of the Abuse Functional Safety group at Tesla, you will ensure the safety of products across Vehicles, Energy Products, and Robotics by simulating extreme real-world scenarios. The role involves investigating complex technical issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and informing design decisions to enhance product safety and robustness.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Fundamentals in electrical and thermal properties
  • 2+ years’ experience in physically applied-engineering
  • Ability to interact across a variety of groups collaboratively
  • Practical, hands-on, can-do attitude
  • Failure analysis experience a plus
  • Lithium ion / automotive / grid scale energy storage experience a plus
  • Approximately 5% expected travel

Responsibilities

  • Study the properties of electrical failures in battery packs and conduct root cause analysis, including scenarios such as short circuit events, and saltwater in high voltage systems
  • Develop and validate mitigations to identified issues and coordinate interdisciplinary product improvement implementations
  • Create experiments to push electrical systems to their limits
  • Develop internal standards and processes to continue to improve the safety of our products
  • Collaborate in the design and manufacturing of future products
