Job description
Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Sr. Manufacturing Controls Engineer to join their Precision Machining team in Lathrop, CA. The role involves sustaining and improving automated manufacturing equipment, troubleshooting PLC-based systems, and collaborating with various engineering teams to enhance production processes.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics or Computer Science, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 4+ years of hands-on experience as a mechanical/manufacturing controls engineer working with automation and electromechanical systems
- Advanced proficiency in programming industrial equipment using IEC 61131-3 languages, particularly structured text and ladder logic
- Experience with PLCs (Siemens and Beckhoff a must; Allen Bradley is a plus)
- Proficiency in Human Machine Interface (HMI)/SCADA systems
- Ability to select and integrate circuit protectors, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, and other components
- Proficiency in programming robots and working with vision systems
- Proven troubleshooting skills and root cause analysis
- Knowledge of Ethernet communications and script-based programming is a plus
Responsibilities
- Lead continuous improvement efforts using data-driven solutions
- Support production ramp-up by troubleshooting mechanical automation equipment
- Develop and maintain PLC and HMI software to optimize operator experience
- Contribute to equipment conceptual development considering various factors
- Create electrical schematics and optimize equipment for safety and efficiency
- Address equipment issues and develop maintenance documentation
- Drive continuous improvement of automated equipment
- Participate in risk assessments and safety evaluations
- Support 24/7 production operations as needed
