Job description
The Tooling Engineer at Tesla will lead tooling engineering activities for high-pressure die-cast components, managing die build projects and process development until production validation. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and expertise in die design and simulation software.
Requirements
- Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
- Related experience in High-Pressure Die-castings in the automotive industry
- Proficient in Die Design with experience in gating and thermal design
- Proficient in 2D and GD&T
- Experience with 3D modelling with proficiency in CATIA V5
- Experience with flow simulation software
- Knowledge in lean manufacturing
- Strong project management skills
Responsibilities
- Responsible for Engineering of Cast and Trim dies for all assigned High Pressure Die-cast components
- Manage die suppliers using project management best practices during die build programs
- Lead die builds, design approvals and die buy offs from Tesla Tooling Engineering
- Responsible for process development of all new dies produced for Tesla Casting operation
- Create process documentation of all new dies/inserts using standard Tesla format
- Involve in DFM process with Tesla product design team for new and existing parts
- Provide simulation models and read simulation reports with good understanding of flow simulation software
- Optimize tooling performance by utilizing applicable surface coatings and materials
- Perform dimensional analysis and implement corrective actions
