Job description
Tesla's Supplier Industrialization team is seeking an experienced engineer to oversee component development and qualification at suppliers. The role involves collaboration with various teams, on-site decision-making, and a focus on improving product quality to support rapid production cycles.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of assembly plant experience supporting battery cell components or similar in a Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering, Process Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Supplier Industrialization Engineering role
- Experience in Quality Systems a plus: PPAP/APQP processes
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949 Standards
- Background in Statistical Process Control, Capability Analysis (Cp, Cpk), MSA, FMEA, and Control Plans
- In-depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and inspection
- Ability to communicate and direct supplier activities at the management level
- Self-starter with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Excellent team building skills in dealing with suppliers, peers, and other functional areas
- Willingness to travel on short notice, up to 30% travel may be required
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, direct, and conduct industrialization related activities within the supply chain team
- Develop, manage, audit, improve, and correct supplier component manufacturing execution, assembly techniques, and quality control processes
- Provide leadership for New Product Introduction (NPI) at suppliers
- Lead supplier improvements in scalability, cost, and quality
- Facilitate clear communication of technical requirements between suppliers and Tesla teams
- Collaborate with Tesla teams to determine supplier performance specifications and assessment metrics
- Meet initial OEE targets and continuously improve OEE through the product life cycle
- Identify root causes related to process equipment, metrology system, and quality procedures
- Validate supplier corrective actions involving design and/or process changes
