Job description

Tesla's Energy Manufacturing Engineering team is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to develop innovative tools and processes for sustainable energy production. The role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to enhance manufacturing efficiency and support the production of advanced battery modules, requiring both domestic and international travel.

Requirements

  • 3+ years’ experience developing mechanical and/or electromechanical systems in a high-volume manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on proficiency with 2D CAD tools for conceptual line design (AutoCAD) and 3D modeling for mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling (SolidWorks or CATIA)
  • Familiarity with conveyance systems, transducer-based fastening, robotics, adhesive dispensing, laser welding, or automated functional testing
  • Demonstrated ability to create technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment
  • Experience in providing Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Automation (DFA) input
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability

Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing equipment and fixtures to support early-stage prototype builds and medium to high-volume production, collaborating with equipment integrators on design and manufacturing
  • Determine and procure necessary equipment for all manufacturing processes, while managing suppliers through specification, design, buyoff, and installation
  • Characterize and validate new equipment and fixtures for introduction to the production floor
  • Develop new manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency and scalability
  • Determine layout of production workstations, optimizing for product flow, ergonomics, and overall efficiency
  • Perform process analysis, including DOE, PFMEA, line balancing, capacity modeling/simulation, and DFM input to the design team for process and yield improvements
  • Create detailed manufacturing instructions to train technicians and line operators on new processes and equipment
