Job description

The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer – BIW position at Tesla involves leading and managing the introduction of new manufacturing equipment and processes, as well as improving existing ones in a fast-paced environment. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and demands strong engineering and problem-solving skills, particularly in automotive manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Clear understanding of machine safeguarding & equipment safety compliance
  • 5+ years of experience designing, implementing, and optimizing complex automated manufacturing equipment & processes
  • Work independently with concepts and documentation from prototype to sustaining activities
  • Familiarity with Robot & PLC technologies and platforms, their capabilities, and limitations
  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to objectively resolve conflict within a large group
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Able to work flexible hours and schedules as required
  • Work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
  • Proficiency with 3D and 2D CAD platform

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage CapEx project lifecycle for medium to large sized projects
  • Lead equipment design, development & implementation to achieve project and production goals and KPI’s
  • Attend Factory Acceptance Testing at supplier location(s) to ensure equipment conformance
  • Define build sequence, material flow, process steps, cycle time, key quality & safety points
  • Create & provide Process sheets, Work instructions, Maintenance instructions, and Manufacturing BOM
  • Create spare part lists for new equipment & define critical spares
  • Study technologies to expert-level of understanding and lead new technologies
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to lesser-experienced engineers
  • Support Maintenance in troubleshooting difficult breakdowns and chronic equipment failures
  • Work in a hands-on capacity in a production environment
