Job description

Tesla Midwest Automation is seeking a mechanical engineer to design and detail mechanical components for automation systems. The role involves working independently on projects, collaborating with vendors, and ensuring compliance with Tesla standards while pushing the limits of machine design.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in machine design/automation design
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to conceptualize and create mechanical designs from concepts
  • Proficiency in using solid modeling CAD design software
  • Hands on experience with prototyping (3D printing, machining, hobby projects)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, design, and detail mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks for automation cells, robotic end effectors
  • Work with vendors to select and size all commercial components for mechanical designs such as pneumatics, motors, gearboxes, and linear motion devices
  • Use calculations and FEA analysis on all appropriate parts and assemblies to ensure compliance
  • Create complete and clean drawing packages for all designs with BOM and all appropriate assembly information
  • Participate in assembly and debug of systems on our production floor
  • Travel with the machine to various Giga factories across the US to install and commission machines
