Job description

Tesla is looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead the development of advanced manufacturing processes at the Texas Gigafactory. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to take new manufacturing designs from concept to full production, requiring strong analytical and organizational skills.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or similar
  • 5+ years manufacturing engineering + 3+ years engineering leadership
  • Mechanical assembly expertise: tolerance analysis, adhesive bonding, pressing
  • Data-driven problem solving: root cause analysis, JMP/statistical tools
  • Automated line design: PLC programming, HMI, motion control
  • New equipment/process implementation in production environments
  • High-volume manufacturing experience in key areas: Automated assembly, precision manufacturing, vision systems, Laser processing, welding, battery tech, vacuum systems
  • Production quality metrics knowledge + exceptional communication
  • Proven history of leading initiatives that deliver measurable impact in manufacturing environments

Responsibilities

  • Oversee engineering activities from inception to closure ensuring alignment with manufacturing goals and timelines
  • Drive reductions in CapEx, BOM, and manufacturing costs through innovative processes and operational improvements
  • Mentor the engineering team and collaborate with production, controls, and construction teams
  • Improve Gigafactory Texas operations by refining procedures and troubleshooting equipment installations
  • Maintain detailed process records, develop DFMEA/PFMEA documentation, and validate automation systems
  • Use tools to monitor engineering tasks and personnel activities
  • Present funding requests and production updates to Tesla leadership
  • Coordinate with construction teams to install and commission global production lines
  • Accelerate production launches, train teams, and deliver handover documentation
  • Meet aggressive launch schedules while ensuring seamless transitions to operational teams
