Tesla is looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead the development of advanced manufacturing processes at the Texas Gigafactory. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to take new manufacturing designs from concept to full production, requiring strong analytical and organizational skills.
Requirements
- Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or similar
- 5+ years manufacturing engineering + 3+ years engineering leadership
- Mechanical assembly expertise: tolerance analysis, adhesive bonding, pressing
- Data-driven problem solving: root cause analysis, JMP/statistical tools
- Automated line design: PLC programming, HMI, motion control
- New equipment/process implementation in production environments
- High-volume manufacturing experience in key areas: Automated assembly, precision manufacturing, vision systems, Laser processing, welding, battery tech, vacuum systems
- Production quality metrics knowledge + exceptional communication
- Proven history of leading initiatives that deliver measurable impact in manufacturing environments
Responsibilities
- Oversee engineering activities from inception to closure ensuring alignment with manufacturing goals and timelines
- Drive reductions in CapEx, BOM, and manufacturing costs through innovative processes and operational improvements
- Mentor the engineering team and collaborate with production, controls, and construction teams
- Improve Gigafactory Texas operations by refining procedures and troubleshooting equipment installations
- Maintain detailed process records, develop DFMEA/PFMEA documentation, and validate automation systems
- Use tools to monitor engineering tasks and personnel activities
- Present funding requests and production updates to Tesla leadership
- Coordinate with construction teams to install and commission global production lines
- Accelerate production launches, train teams, and deliver handover documentation
- Meet aggressive launch schedules while ensuring seamless transitions to operational teams
