Tesla is looking for a motivated Packaging Engineer to lead packaging projects for Vehicle and Energy platforms. The role involves collaborating with various teams to develop packaging requirements and ensure efficient delivery of parts while maintaining quality and manufacturability.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Packaging, Industrial Design, or equivalent work experience
• Working knowledge of CAD and technical drawings, including datum structure, GD&T and tolerance stack up analysis
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes including machining, welding, injection molding
• Strong knowledge in a variety of materials such as aluminum, steel, composites, foam
• Experience with designing to standards such as ASTM, Mil-Spec
• Strong understanding of packaging testing and validation
• Proficient at risk management and communication
• Team player with strong process and continuous improvement mindset
• Travel up to 30% required

• Lead end-to-end engineered packaging projects for Tesla Vehicle and Energy platforms
• Interface with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, New Product Introduction, and Operations partners to gather and develop packaging requirements
• Partner with Supply Chain and Logistics to drive projects for efficient delivery of parts
• Provide design direction and development plans for protective packaging containers, dunnage, and unique shipping racks
• Apply industrial design techniques of CAD, technical drawings, including datum structure, GD&T and tolerance stack up analysis
• Monitor KPI’s and work with Packaging Design Engineers to develop packaging standards
• Drive expendable to returnable projects and participate in sustainability initiatives
• Manage project budgets, risks, and change management
• Assist in vendor selection and vendor management
