The Senior Hardware Engineer (Mechanical) will lead the mechanical design and integration of delivery robots into Amazon's last-mile delivery ecosystem. This role focuses on modifications to delivery van and station infrastructure to support robot operations. The engineer will work at the intersection of vehicle engineering, robotics hardware, and operations, ensuring designs are production-ready and scalable. Strong mechanical design expertise and the ability to balance various factors in a high-volume logistics environment are essential.
Requirements
- Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
- Experience with the project management of technical projects.
Responsibilities
- Own the mechanical design and integration of robot-related systems within delivery vans.
- Design in-van charging solutions for robots, including mechanical interfaces and serviceability requirements.
- Lead mechanical design for robot ingress/egress mechanisms that enable safe deployment and retrieval.
- Define and implement station-side infrastructure that integrates with existing warehouse workflows.
- Translate operational and autonomy requirements into clear mechanical requirements and design constraints.
- Partner with electrical, firmware, robotics, and vehicle engineering teams for system integration.
- Drive designs through concept, prototyping, validation, and production.
- Ensure solutions meet safety, ergonomics, and regulatory requirements.
- Optimize designs for cost, manufacturability, durability, and ease of maintenance.
- Support pilot deployments and field testing, iterating designs based on real-world feedback.
Benefits
- Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
