Job description

The Data Center Chief Engineer (CE) role at AWS involves overseeing the critical physical infrastructure of data centers to ensure optimal performance and availability. This position requires collaboration with a diverse team of engineers and specialists to maintain safety and efficiency standards. The CE will manage a team of technicians and vendors, ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and safety equipment operates at peak efficiency. The role also includes capacity planning and responding to emergencies, making it vital for the smooth operation of AWS data centers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience in vendor management
  • Experience in a data center or other critical environment
  • Experience in data center engineering or operations
  • Experience with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience in construction or project management

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead the DCEO Engineering Team
  • Establish performance benchmarks and conduct analysis on facility operations
  • Oversee the management of shift technicians, sub-contractors, and vendors
  • Manage routine and emergency services for critical systems such as switchgear and generators
  • Plan and report on data center capacity
  • Assist in the design and build-out of new facilities
  • Coordinate projects with IT managers and business leaders
  • Deliver quality service to meet customer demands
  • Manage asset and inventory effectively
  • Respond to out-of-hours emergency calls as a second-level escalation point
