Job description

Rivian is seeking a highly motivated Senior Process Engineer to optimize manufacturing processes and ensure product quality. This role will support the Drive Unit production team and report to the Process Engineering Manager. The ideal candidate will focus on bridging process efficiency with quality assurance while driving continuous improvement initiatives. The position requires technical ownership in scaling and optimizing drive unit assembly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Preferably 3+ years of engineering experience in a high-volume manufacturing operation, preferably in automotive or drive unit manufacturing.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Hands-on experience with supporting production equipment including mechanical, electrical, control systems, automation, and robotics.
  • Experience using 2D and 3D modeling tools such as AutoCAD and CATIA/ENOVIA.
  • Knowledge in DOE, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance, Torque Tooling, Error Proofing, and PFMEA.
  • Experience or certification in Six Sigma DMAIC, Lean Assembly Principles, and Time Studies using MTM or MODAPTS.
  • Proficiency in SPC software like Minitab or JMP for Cp/Cpk analysis.
  • Knowledge of SQL for data extraction is a strong plus.
  • Availability to work 2nd/night shift.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate engineering changes and new program launches.
  • Review, interpret, and summarize statistical data to drive process improvement.
  • Determine the best practice process approach for material, tooling, equipment, and labor.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality work instructions, standardized work, process flows, and PFMEAs.
  • Collaborate with the design engineering team to ensure designs support high volume production while maintaining quality.
  • Work with the manufacturing engineering team to commission and optimize next generation drive unit assembly equipment.
  • Perform time analysis using a standard motion time system and manage staffing requirements.
  • Support production teams through troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
  • Investigate assembly issues and implement solutions by reviewing product design and established processes.
  • Monitor Quality KPIs and develop action items to reduce costs with cross-functional teams.
