Job description
The role is for an engineer in the Wi-Fi Connectivity team, focusing on integrating protocols and architectures to enhance performance and resource efficiency. The position involves analyzing Wi-Fi standards and developing solutions that improve connectivity experiences for Apple customers. The engineer will collaborate with various product development groups to push the boundaries of wireless systems. This position requires a strong background in Wi-Fi system design and technical leadership.
Requirements
- BS degree and a minimum of 20 years relevant industry experience.
- 7+ years hands-on Wi-Fi/IEEE 802.11 system design and architecture experience.
- 5+ years in technical leadership roles.
- Strong understanding of 802.11 standards with emphasis on MAC and PHY layer features.
- Knowledge of Wi-Fi system architectures on HW/FW/SW systems.
- Solid foundation in wireless communication theory and signal processing.
- Proficiency in performance analysis, simulation, and modeling tools.
- Experience analyzing complex technical trade-offs.
- Experience with prototype development and proof-of-concept validation.
- Strong analytical and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to influence technical direction through data-driven decision-making.
- Cross-functional collaboration and project management skills.
- MSEE or PhD degrees with 10+ years of relevant experience in the Wi-Fi industry.
- Hands-on experience with Wi-Fi 7 features.
- Strong knowledge of Wi-Fi 8/IEEE 802.11bn features.
- Experience with competitive analysis and technology benchmarking.
- Familiarity with silicon development processes and constraints.
- Understanding of power management strategies for mobile devices.
- Experience with user research or product management methodologies.
- Knowledge of other wireless standards and interactions with Wi-Fi.
- Experience with lab characterization and field testing.
Responsibilities
- Develop solutions to control and integrate protocol features and architectures.
- Analyze Wi-Fi standard features to identify integration and implementation strategies.
- Validate performance improvements through simulation, modeling, and prototyping.
- Estimate the cost of solutions including silicon area and engineering effort.
- Partner with architecture and design teams to evaluate implementation viability.
- Build alignment across various engineering disciplines for implementation paths.
- Drive proof-of-concept work from prototype through product bring up.
- Produce engineering-ready specifications covering acceptance criteria and performance targets.
