Job description

Amazon Prime Air is looking for a Senior Systems Development Engineer to lead DO-178C Requirements and Verification Engineering within the Drone Guidance, Navigation & Controls (GNC) team. The role involves owning the architecture of the requirements and verification lifecycle, defining standards and processes for software development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development and systems engineering, particularly in embedded systems. This position requires high autonomy and the ability to enhance team capabilities through technical leadership and mentorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related fields.
  • 3+ years of direct experience developing software requirements (HLRs and LLRs) in a safety-critical or regulated engineering environment.
  • 3+ years of direct experience with DO-178C at DAL C or higher, including authoring or reviewing lifecycle artifacts.
  • Demonstrated experience developing requirements-based test cases and test procedures in a structured lifecycle environment.
  • Experience with model-based design (Simulink/Stateflow) for requirements capture, simulation, or qualified code generation.
  • Experience with autonomous systems, robotics, GNC algorithms, or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical architecture of the requirements and verification lifecycle for GNC software.
  • Lead development of High-Level Requirements (HLRs) derived from system-level requirements.
  • Lead development of Low-Level Requirements (LLRs) providing detailed software design specifications.
  • Own software architecture documentation for GNC software components.
  • Lead development of verification evidence including test cases and test procedures.
  • Lead development of software tools in Python, MATLAB, or C/C++ to support simulation and test automation.
  • Proactively identify and resolve requirements and verification risks across the software lifecycle.
  • Communicate requirements and verification status clearly to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
