The Senior Software Development Engineer role at EBS Placement focuses on driving the technical direction of placement systems that operate at AWS scale. The team is responsible for making real-time decisions on EBS volume placements, ensuring performance, availability, and cost-effectiveness. Engineers in this role will collaborate with various teams across AWS to enhance system capabilities and lead design initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to influence technical decisions and contribute to the evolution of one of AWS's largest storage businesses.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- 5+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language.
- 4+ years of experience leading design or architecture of new and existing systems.
- Experience as a mentor or tech lead in an engineering team.
- 5+ years of experience in the full software development life cycle.
- Experience effectively using AI-assisted development tools.
Responsibilities
- Drive technical design and architecture for placement systems that make real-time decisions.
- Translate ambiguous requirements into durable, extensible solutions.
- Lead features end-to-end from design through implementation, deployment, and launch.
- Identify and drive cross-team technical initiatives to improve placement capabilities.
- Collaborate with and influence engineers across EBS, EC2, and partner AWS teams.
- Lead design reviews and establish technical best practices for the team.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence.
