Job description

As a Software Engineer II in Microsoft's Sovereign Cloud Security team, you will focus on building and securing cloud-scale software for sensitive and mission-critical environments. Your role involves designing, delivering, and maintaining highly reliable services that support both internal security platforms and customer-facing offerings. You will work in a fast-paced, agile setting, collaborating with experienced engineers to tackle complex systems and security challenges. This position emphasizes rigorous engineering practices, operational excellence, and a strong commitment to security and reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Candidates must be able to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
  • The successful candidate must have an active U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements pre-offer and post-hire.
  • Verification of U.S. citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, test, and maintain cloud-scale services and platform components used in security-critical and highly regulated environments.
  • Build features and systems that support security, compliance, management, and reliability scenarios for both internal Microsoft platforms and customer-facing services.
  • Collaborate closely with partner teams such as security, operations, program management, and compliance to deliver end-to-end solutions.
  • Investigate and resolve live-site issues, contributing to strong operational excellence and service reliability.
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call rotations to support service health, respond to incidents, and help restore service quickly and safely.
  • Apply secure-by-design principles throughout the development lifecycle, including threat modeling and defense-in-depth practices.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset by learning new technologies, seeking feedback, and gradually taking on broader technical ownership.

Benefits

  • Employees at Microsoft are often offered comprehensive, “world-class” benefits—including health and mental-wellness programs, competitive pay with bonuses and stock awards, and retirement/savings options. Time-off and flexibility are common, with generous vacation and holidays, parental and caregiver leave, and flexible work schedules, alongside learning support, employee resource groups, product discounts, and matching-gifts/volunteering programs. Specific benefits can vary by region.
