Job description

The role involves collaborating with a diverse team to design and implement fiber optic solutions for AWS's global infrastructure. You will work on network architecture, ensuring high standards of performance and reliability. The team focuses on managing fiber infrastructure and delivering impactful projects that enhance customer experience. This position offers the opportunity to influence industry standards and develop innovative solutions in a rapidly growing environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Communications Engineering or a related field
  • 1+ years of data center experience or experience with cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies
  • Expertise in industry standards such as ANSI/TIA, BICSI and other relevant structured cabling guidelines
  • 2+ years of experience developing test requirements and scripts for fiber validation and characterization
  • Proven ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams and external vendors on large-scale projects
  • Strong skills in reviewing and interpreting technical drawings, cable schedules, and documentation management

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with vendors and manufacturers to develop and evaluate new Fiber Optic solutions and create implementation plans for network incorporation.
  • Design and specify structured cabling systems for network layers at hyperscale data centers.
  • Develop standards, reference designs, and installation guidelines for physical network and cabling deployments.
  • Focus on ambiguous problem areas in existing or new network architecture and propose projects with significant business impact.
  • Manage fiber vendors and contractors, performing quality control and commissioning of fiber bundles and structured cabling systems.
  • Perform mitigation analysis and site inspections to validate as-built conditions and ensure compliance with design requirements.
  • Monitor network quality and build mechanisms to remediate large-scale events and improve link health.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to fiber connectivity and design.
  • Maintain documentation, drawings, and asset records for physical fiber network components across global sites.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
