Job description

In this role, you will join a team of expert software engineers within Apple's Silicon Technologies group, focusing on developing graphics validation software for high-performance processors and system-on-chip (SoC) designs. You will leverage your deep understanding of GPU architecture to write tests that stress the GPU pipeline and validate the interaction between various IP blocks. Your work will ensure that Apple products can efficiently handle complex tasks, enhancing the user experience for millions of customers. This position requires a meticulous and curious mindset, as you will be debugging both software and hardware issues in SoC systems.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience in silicon validation software engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with Graphics, OpenGL, and CUDA.
  • Strong understanding of the GPU pipeline and graphics theory.
  • Knowledge of system and SoC architectures.
  • Experience with image processing, memory hierarchies, and compilers.
  • Strong C/C++ programming skills.
  • Proficiency in Python and GNU Make.
  • Deep understanding of compute systems, operating systems, and computer architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Develop graphics validation software and integrate it into the system level test environment.
  • Write shaders that stress the GPU and manage high bandwidth traffic to and from the memory subsystem.
  • Apply understanding of GPU architecture to write tests that stress the pipeline and validate interactions between the GPU and different IP blocks.
  • Use driver and firmware APIs to compile shaders and manage data movement in the SoC using GPU threads and SIMD groups.
  • Debug SoC software and hardware issues and perform system level validation.
  • Implement and run ML/LLM workloads for GPU characterization.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
